Trainings for Everyone Who Serves Vulnerable Populations

This five-day training is designed to support professionals in gathering information from adults who have disabilities and/or mental health disorders in the most reliable and legally defensible manner.

Designed for established forensic interviewers with previous basic training and experience in forensic interviewing and or working with individuals with disabilities.

Designed to equip established forensic interviewers with the necessary skills to gather information from individuals who do not speak in the most reliable and legally defensible manner.

Designed for intake workers who initiate

investigations of abuse, neglect, maltreatment and exploitation for their

agency. While this training is not a forensic Interviewing training, the training is

founded in forensic interviewing best practices with considerations for asking

open-ended questions on the phone when someone has concerns for the a

child or vulnerable adult in their community.

Designed for multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) who investigate and support victims of abuse and neglect. This training will give you a broader understanding of individuals with disabilities and you will be introduced to the FIND Model of Forensic Interviewing. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to practice the new skills learned from the training.

Designed for prosecutors who want to increase their knowledge about the needs of crime victims with disabilities and learn different ways to pursue charges in these cases.

Designed for individuals working on multi-disciplinary teams (MDT’s) and in other service organizations who are seeking to gain insights on the risk factors, realities, and strategies for working with individuals with disabilities. 

When you complete this training, you’ll understand the unique characteristics of vulnerable populations, how to effectively communicate with them, and how to create safe environments for them. 

The Four-Day SAFE training is designed for first responders including but not limited to; Adult Protective Services workers, law enforcement and other investigative personnel to more effectively communicate and gather information from alleged victims of elder abuse and neglect in the most reliable and legally defensible manner.

The SAFE Two-Day training is designed for elder justice professionals seeking to gain additional information on communicating with older adults who are alleged victims of crime. This training is for Adult Protective Services workers, law enforcement, district attorneys, attorneys general, victim services professionals, medical professionals, etc.

The SAFE One-Day training is designed for professionals seeking to learn more about abuse in later life, the multidisciplinary team approach, and some general tips on how to communicate with the older adult population.

The SAFE Two-Day Financial Exploitation and Fraud training strengthens participants’ ability to effectively communicate with and support older adults who are alleged victims of financial exploitation and fraud while preserving the integrity of the investigative process.

Studies have long established that children with disabilities are disproportionately criminally victimized. From 2017 - 2019, the average annual rate of violent victimization for individuals with disabilities was more than four times the rate among individuals without disabilities.

The risk of being a victim of crime, especially a victim of sexual assault, is 4 to 10 times higher for an individual with a disability. There are a number of factors related to individuals with disabilities susceptibility to victimization.

This training is intended for multidisciplinary professionals seeking to advance their understanding of basic communication techniques that are reliable, legally defensible, effective, and accommodating for children with disabilities who are alleged victims of abuse or neglect.

This training is intended for multidisciplinary professionals seeking practical, legally defensible, and effective communication strategies when working with individuals who are considered “non-verbal” who are who are alleged victims abuse or neglect.

Victim advocates play a critical role in ensuring survivors of crime receive compassionate, accessible, and effective support. Individuals with disabilities experience violence and victimization at disproportionately high rates and often face significant barriers when seeking services, reporting crimes, or navigating systems of support.
