The SAFE (Safe and Accessible Forensic Interviewing with Elders) Two-Day Financial Exploitation and Fraud training is designed for professionals in Law Enforcement, Adult Protective Services, Medicaid Fraud Control Units, Ombudsman, and Victim Advocates who are involved in responding to cases involving financial crimes committed against older adults. This training strengthens participants’ ability to effectively communicate with and support older adults who are alleged victims of financial exploitation and fraud while preserving the integrity of the investigative process.
The course explores the dynamics and typologies of elder financial crimes, risk factors for exploitation, and the complex reasons older adults may fail to recognize, disclose, or report their victimization. Emphasis is placed on gathering accurate, reliable, and legally defensible information through forensic interviewing best practices.
The training incorporates evidence-based adaptations to address age-related cognitive changes, underlying neuropathology (including dementias such as Alzheimer’s disease), communication and language differences, and cultural considerations that may impact the investigation and service delivery. Participants engage in interactive presentations, multidisciplinary discussions, skill-building activities, and applied case studies real-world investigations.
